In the fist half of this month, China's assertive activities are increasingly prominent.
From August 2 to 5, Chinese Coast Gurad vessels invaded Japanese territorial waters around the Senkakus.
From August 4, China and Russia have begun the joint naval exercise in the Sea of Japan.
Both countries will hold a maritime joint patrol in the Pacific Ocean after exercise.
On August 11, two Chinese ships collided in the waters around the Scaborough Shoal.
These ships were pursuing the Philippine coast guard ship. After this incident, tension between China and the Philippine are rising while involving other countries.
The US deployed two naval vessels to the South China Sea and Chinese naval vessels pursued them. On August 14, Chinese fighter jets approached the Philippine airplane in the airspace over the Scaborogh Shoal.

entered Japan's territorial
waters off the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture in the
East China Sea early Saturday.
The Japan Coast Guard says
the vessels moved into the
waters off Uotsuri Island, and tried to approach a
Japanese fishing boat there.
Coast guard officials are
monitoring the ships and
warning them to immediately
leave Japan's waters.
Chinese government ships were
last confirmed entering
Japanese territorial waters off the Senkaku Islands on
July 9.

China and Russia have begun
the maritime phase of their
joint naval exercise in the Sea of Japan. The move
is widely seen as part of
their apparent effort to
deepen bilateral military
cooperation to counter the
United States.
China's state-run media
report that the maritime
exercise began on Sunday.
The two countries have
conducted almost annual joint
exercises in recent years.
Vessels participating in the
exercise include China's
missile destroyers and Russia'
s large anti-submarine ship.
The exercise will continue
through Tuesday, covering
such drills as anti-submarine and air
defense training.
Chinese media add that the
two nations will hold a

Two Chinese coast guard ships,
again, intruded into
Japanese territorial waters
off the Senkaku Islands on August
4. According to the Japan
Coast Guard, these two
vessels had also entered Japan's
territorial waters on August
2 and had just left on August
3.
The two vessels entered the
territorial waters around
Taisho Island at around 0:20 a.m. on August 4.
They approached a Japanese
fishing boat in operation,
and left the vicinity of the
island by around 4:50 p.m.

The Indian Navy conducted
joint patrols with the
Philippine Navy for the first
time in the waters near
Scarborough Shoal in the
South China Sea, an area of
disputed territory between China and
the Philippines.
According to the Philippine
military, the joint exercise
lasted for two days from
August 3, and involved five vessels in
total, including three Indian
ships including missile
destroyers and two Philippine missile
frigates.
In addition, the two
militaries conducted
replenishment at sea
exercises and anti-air warfare exercises
with the aim of enhancing
interoperability.

A Japanese-supplied
Philippine patrol ship
confronted a Chinese vessel
in the South China Sea, an area disputed by both
China and the Philippines, and the Philippine side
released video footage.
The Philippine Coast Guard
announced on April 4 that the
patrol vessel Teresa Magbanua has issued a
warning to a vessel of the
China Maritime Administration in the South
China Sea off Pangasinan,
northern Philippines.
The Teresa Magbanua is a
patrol vessel that Japan
provided to the Philippines three years ago through a yen
loan.
In the released video, the
Philippine side warned in a
broadcast that a ship of the China Maritime Police
Bureau was navigating in the
exclusive economic zone of the Philippines.
In contrast, the Chinese side
claimed that the “Teresa
Magbanua” was entering waters under Chinese
jurisdiction and ordered it
to leave immediately.

A Taiwanese oceanographic
research vessel was confirmed
to have lowered what looked like a cable into waters in
Japan's exclusive economic
zone off the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima.
According to the Japan Coast
Guard, a coast guard patrol
boat spotted the Taiwanese vessel conducting the suspicious activity at a point some 335 kilometers
west-northwest of Tokunoshima Island (
Kagoshima Prefecture) around
3:50 p.m. on August 4.
The JCG boat radioed the
Taiwanese vessel and told it
to stop the activity, warning that a survey without prior consent is not permitted. The Taiwanese ship passed the geographically
equidistance line between
Japan and Taiwan to the west around 7:47 p.m. and left Japan's EEZ.

August 5.
According to the Japan Coast
Guard, the Chinese vessels
have repeatedly intruded into territorial waters since
August 2.
The four vessels entered the
territorial waters around
Uotsuri Island and other
islands at around 4:00 p.m. on August
5, and left the vicinity of
the islands by 6:00 p.m. on the same day.

A Chinese oceanographic
research vessel was confirmed

exclusive economic zone off
Kumejima Island (Okinawa Prefecture) on
August 6.
The Japan Coast Guard
aircraft radioed the Chinese
vessel for a cease and desist.
According to government
officials, on August 6, the
chief of the section in
charge of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs protested to the
Chinese side, claiming that
the survey was conducted in an area of
the sea different from that
reported in advance.
A Chinese vessel was
confirmed in the waters about
257 km northwest of Kumejima
Island.
This is the third time this
year that similar behavior by
Chinese vessels has been confirmed in Japan's EEZ,
following on May 11 and 26.

Islands on August 7.
This is the 262nd consecutive
day that Chinese government
vessels have been confirmed in the Senkaku Islands area.
This marks the longest
consecutive day since the
Japanese government
nationalized the Senkaku Islands in
September 2012.

UAV (estimated) flying from the East China Sea to the
Pacific Ocean through the
area between Yonagunijima Island and Taiwan.
This UAV then circled on the
Pacific Ocean, and turned and
flew back to the East China
Sea through the same area.
Japan Air Self-Defense Force
scrambled to this UAV.

and Russian Naval Vessels,
one Luyang III (hull number 134; Chinese),
one Fuchi class oiler (hull
number 886; Chinese), one Udaloy class destroyer (
hull number 564; Russian).
There vessels were sailing northeast in the waters 320km
northwest of Okushiri Island (
Hokkaido) on August 7.
On Augst 8, these vessels
sailed east through the Soya
Strait.
These vessels are the same
ones that were confirmed on
July 24 in the Tsushima
Strait.

Two Chinese ships collied in the South China Sea on August 11. According to the Philippine coast guard, Chinese naval vessel, Luyang III class destroyer (hull number 164), and Chinese coast guard ship (hull number 3104) have collided in the ‘Philippine’s EEZ’ around the Scarborough Shoal in the morning on August 11.
These ships were pursuing the Philippine coast guard ship. These ships were also firing water cannons and obstructing the Philippine coast guard ship while being pursued.
The Scarborough Shoal is the
flash point between the
Philippine and China since China seized it from the
Philippines in 2012. The
collision in this time
occurred amid a series of
confrontations between the
Philippines and China.

Vishnya class Intelligence
ship (hull number 208) sailing south in the waters
50km west of Okushiri Island (
Hokkaido) on August 2.
This vessel then sailed south
in contiguous waters around
Okushiri Island and Toshima oshima Island. After
cruising near Toshima Oshima,
this vessel crossed the
Tsugaru Strait and navigated to the
Pacific Ocean.

waters 140km northeast of
Miyako Island (Okinawa
Prefecture) on August 10.
This vessel then sailed
between Okinawa and Miyako

On the same day, JMSDF also
confirmed one Chinese Jangkai
II class frigate (hull number
578) sailing northwest in the
waters 140km northeast of
Miyako Island.
This vessel then sailed
between Okinawa and Miyako
Island and navigated to the East China Sea.

JMSDF confirmed two Russian Tarantul III class missile patrol boat (hull number 978 and 937) sailing east in the waters 70km northwest of Rebun Island (Hokkaido). These vessels then navigated east through the Soya Strait.

JMSDF confirmed two Chinese
naval vessels, one Luyang III
class destroyer (hull number 118) and one
Dakai class submarine rescue
ship (hull number 841),
sailing southwest in the
waters 60km northeast of
Tsushima (Nagasaki prefecture)
on August 13. These vessels
then crossed the Tsushima
Strait and navigated to the East China Sea.
These vessels are the same
ones that were confirmed on
July 24(Luyang III) and 25 (Dakai) in the
Tsushima Strait.

The reactions of regional
countries to the incident at
Scarborough Shoal are also
clear.
The United States Navy
deployed two warships, the
USS Higgins and the USS
Cincinnati, to a disputed South China Sea.
These vessels were reportedly chased by the
Chinese naval vessels. This
deployment was conducted as the response to the incident which occurred in the Scarborough
Shoal.
Japan, Australia and New Zealand expressed alarm over the Chinese dangerous actions in the South China Sea. The Japanese ambassador to the Philippines, Kazuya ENDO posted on his X
that “Japan upholds the rule
of law and opposes any actions which increase
tensions. Our concern goes to the repeated actions in the South China Sea.” In
addition, the embassies of
Australia and New Zealand in Manila have also expressed
their concerns about China’s
actions.

The Philippine coast guard announced that the Chinese fighter jets approached their airplane in the airspace around the Scarborough Shoal. The fighter jets flew around the Philippine airplane for about 20minutes and came within 60 meters.
