In the latter half of this month, the situation regarding tensions with neighboring countries\u00a0remains largely unchanged, considering China\u2019s maritime activities and diplomatic posture.\u200b\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the East China Sea, thousands of Chinese fishing vessels were mobilized twice, in massive\u00a0flotillas, revealing China\u2019s enhanced maritime militia capacity.\u200b It has also been reported that\u00a0China’s oceanographic research in Japan’s EEZ has intensified in recent years.\u200b In the South China Sea, the Philippine authorities issued a report noting a significant increase in the activities of\u00a0Chinese naval forces near the Philippines last year.\u200b\u00a0<\/p>\n

China\u2019s opposition to Prime Minister Takaichi’s remarks on a Taiwan contingency continues.\u200b China has repeatedly criticized these remarks at UN meetings, regardless of the agenda.\u200b The continued vacancy of Japan’s Consul General post is also reported as a countermeasure in response to these\u00a0remarks.\u200b\u00a0<\/p>\n

During this period, Japan held discussions with the US, Europe, India, and others, reaffirming\u00a0 cooperation in light of the current situation.\u200b\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
